Fifteen years ago today, a gunman opened fire while my wife Gabby Giffords met with constituents outside a Tucson grocery store. Six people were killed. Thirteen others were injured – including Gabby. That day changed everything for my family and our community.

In the years since, I've watched Gabby fight her way back with a strength that inspires me every day. Her courage, and the courage of the other survivors, reminds us why we can’t accept gun violence in our everyday lives.
Today, we remember those who we lost, and we honor their memory by continuing the work to reduce gun violence so more families don’t have to experience the same pain we did on January 8th, 2011.
