I am sad to hear of the loss of a leader, public servant, and friend, Michael Lahti. Mike served the UP for four years as a state representative, where I had the pleasure of working, learning, and laughing with him.
My condolences go out to his family. Mike will be missed across Michigan and especially by his fellow Yoopers.

Congratulations Brig. General Leah Voelker on taking over as commander of Selfridge Air National Guard Base, the first woman to serve in this role.
In her position, Voelker will oversee 1,400 airmen and provide installation support for more than 5,000 joint service members and employees.

I am deeply saddened that we lost a brave Michigander over the weekend in an attack in Syria. Ayad Mansoor Sakat was an interpreter who proudly served this country with honor and courage. My condolences go out to his loved ones and the Macomb Township community.
