“The Ripon Hornblower is a nightly ceremony in Ripon, North Yorkshire, where a horn is blown at the four corners of the obelisk in the Market Square to "set the watch". This tradition, dating back over 1,000 years, originates from a time when the city needed protection from Viking raids.”

After fighting in Europe Dad (12th Yorkshire Parachute Battalion) was shipped to the Far East - he saw some horrific scenes in Singapore which still brought him to tears 70 years later.
