You don’t get to massively use another state’s infrastructure and then complain when said state needs to raise revenue to maintain itself under such a heavy load.
And that infrastructure includes the hospital + health costs NY bears from high childhood asthma rates and respiratory illnesses, much of which is linked to heavy traffic and air pollution.

NY proudly kicks in for public transit used by Jersey commuters, and it works: 92% of NJ commuters use mass transit to get to work. As it should be!
The South Bronx and Harlem/Northern Manhattan have some of the highest asthma death rates in the country. Our infrastructure bends under the weight, too. These communities can’t keep paying the price - time for those costs to be fairly distributed

This morning we rallied in NY with @teamsters President Sean O’Brien to prepare for a potential August 1st strike.
UAW workers and @uaw.union President Shawn Fein ALSO came through to offer support 💪🏽
340,000 UPS workers nationwide (over 8k in NYC alone!) are fighting for fair pay and conditions. UPS executives have walked away ahead of their contract expiration on July 31st, despite the company making record profits since the start of the pandemic.

Overfishing cleared out the oyster population here over 100 years ago. Now we’re bringing them back with City Island Oyster Reef + Billion Oyster Project. Local restaurants donate used shells so we can use them!

If you’re at home and don’t have bar equipment but want to impress:
1. Make Palomas a staple! They are easy to make, and if you pour slowly the colors can layer slightly. Try a fun salt/chile rim to elevate.
2. Lay out a G&T bar. Lay out chilled tonic, gin, ice, an assortment of frozen berries and fruits, and maybe some rosemary or other herbal sprigs. Then let people make their own. You can’t mess it up.
3. Try zero-proof spirits! I like the hospitality of offering cocktails w/o alcohol 🍸

Several of us in Congress are also fighting to remove cannabis from schedule 1 drug classification as well.
An update on that: Dept of HHS is currently studying this possibility under Sec. Becerra, who recently indicated we may get a new marijuana scheduling decision by the end of this year (‼️)
Regardless of where HHS lands, this decision will have an enormous impact. Keep an eye out for this - we will, too!

For years, we’ve been trying to convince Congress to allow the study of psychedelics in therapeutic applications, like PTSD, addiction, and more. 👩🏽⚕️🍄
When I first introduced legislation, the idea was widely mocked in Congress - but not among the veterans and trauma survivors for whom this issue hit home. Thanks to the outreach of everyday people, members are changing their mind and a bipartisan coalition is emerging.

Spent the morning with our @teamsters Local 804 in Queens for a practice picket ahead of a potential August 1st strike.
This could be one of the largest strikes in US history: 340k workers nationwide, with thousands in NYC. These are our neighbors & families.
The workers in our community endure scorching heat and grueling conditions to get us the packages we need 📦 they deserve a living wage (including equal hourly for part timers!), A/C trucks, & more.

Oh gosh, there is literally an endless supply here. I have some really weird stories.
One time there was this really rich guy who would come in 1 week a year & was really addicted to mansplaining. You could just really tell he got satisfaction from it. He’d love to say “ask me a question” and include all these little asides to belittle the server and uplift himself.
Anyways, if you indulged him he’d tip like $200-300 on a lunch tab. Every day for a week straight. Then disappear till next year.
